The directions in terms of the Disaster Management Act relating to the movement of persons and goods which were issued on 7 May 2020 have been revoked and replaced. The new directions issued on 14 May 2020 offer more flexibility because the movement of persons is no longer restricted to residential property only.

The new directions allow for the movement of persons and goods where:

  • a person is relocating to a new place of residence;
  • the move is necessitated due to domestic violence; or
  • a business is relocating to a new premises.

The directions allow a once-off movement for people who are relocating to their new place of residence or business premises. The movement of goods is restricted to their household furniture or office furniture and effects only.

Movement will be permitted provided you have obtained the prescribed permit from the ‘head of court’ or a station commander of a police station, or a person designated by them, indicating the members of the household who are moving and that you are in possession of the relevant lease agreement, or proof of purchase of residence and occupation date, or transfer documents, or a domestic violence order, or proof of change or new occupation of business premises.
